After many years honing his woodworking skills, Tracy Carpenter founded Idaho Made in the fall of 2000. Previously Tracy was Vice President of Support & Field Operations for Calient Optical Networks. Over a 22 year period he helped to establish six different start-up companies . He is well traveled, has visited 47 different countries, and is interested in different cultures and ways of life.
Originally from this part of Idaho, he moved his family back to find a less hectic way of life. His home & studio are nestled in the mountains above the Cub River, near the town of Franklin, Idaho. His great-great-grandfather, Thomas Bennett, was among the original settlers.

The study of many exotic woods and burls has been his passion over the years. Carpenter owns perhaps the world’s largest collection of Old Growth Redwood Burls. His collection was purchased from the estate of a late naturalist. They originated mostly from the Ten Mile and Noyo River watershed in Northern California.
Carpenter’s collection varies in size from twelve inches, frequently used for Japanese Dai (stands), to massive slabs over ten feet wide. His work involves all types of furniture, including Bars, Desks, Tables, Bedroom Sets and many other pieces of Art. His styles range from contemporary work, to fine mountain lodge, to Japanese Mingei-style furnishings.
